Responding to Peter Long (updated)

Peter and Jimmy posted, on consecutive days, pieces they wrote independently on the progress of some of Malaysia’s top juniors. Ref: Peter’s post and Jimmy’s post.

Reflecting on the recent New Nagas Standard Tournament has given me valuable insights on the current situation in Malaysian chess and the issues that we have to address to progress towards seeing Malaysia’s first chess grandmaster. I was thinking maybe I restarted the project in too much of a rush. Perhaps I should have done more groundwork and reassess the circumstances.

National Closed 2012 in May

Malaysians thrive on rumours and gossip, our ‘khabar angin’ and ‘surat layang’. No less engaging are the ‘dramas’ or ‘sandiwara’,  and ‘wayang kulit’ or ‘shadow play’ being acted out and narrated in front of us. Ohhh! I love rumours and gossip as much as the next guy.

New Nagas: Guaranteed Prize Fund

This article continues my sharing of experience on organising the New Nagas event.

The financial aspect is quite often the most important for a project. Too often, we come across disputes and unpleasantness arising from less than clear interpretations on the sharing of surpluses or apportioning of losses after completion of the project. All these make the cost estimates (or budget) a very important document. This article focuses on the prize fund and structure.

A New Offering to Malaysian Chess

Registrations for the New Nagas Standard Chess Tournament next weekend have started to come in over the last few days. I look forward to more registrations over the coming week as we approach event day.

In this article and the next few ones, I shall be sharing this experience of organising this event, which is a mixture of old and new experience for me.
