Responding to 'Among the Strongest in the Country'

This post is a response to 'anonymous' who attacked me and my children in this blog a few days ago on Sunday and later tried to justify the attacks by claiming that I made “an unjustified ‘attack’ on  Ronnie and previous-years players”. ‘anonymous’ further claimed to be ‘among the strongest in the country' and ‘a friend of Ronnie's’ to justify his attack on me and my family.

Responding to Dumbass Comments

I was away at Slim River the whole day yesterday (Sunday) playing at the KLK Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng Event. When I finally got home, my wife told me an 'anonymous' had been attacking me and my kids in the comments section of a recent article.

Brunei Open: Watershed Event (updated)

The just completed Brunei looks like it is going to be a watershed event for Malaysian chess. It is not clear yet but I am betting my credibility that its significance will unfold in coming months (not years) and quickly become clear to knowledgeable followers of Malaysian chess.

Malaysia's No. 1 - Rewinding to 1996

It was August 1996, Jimmy Liew had been Malaysia’s undisputed chess No.1 for God knows how long. 16 years or more? It was also a time of “wonder boys” in Malaysian chess.

Brunei Open - Round 2 Pairings

After his upset win over GM Richard Bitoon in Round 1, Yit Ho is rewarded with a game against teenage IM Jakhongir Vakhidov in Round 2. Mas and Li Tian have interesting match-ups against GM Dao Thien Hai and strong IM Oliver Dimakiling respectively, while Zaidan is paired with Filipino IM Steven Yap Kim.

Benjamin is paired with 2028-rated veteran Brunei player, Yap Choow Tun, while Yit San, William and Dilwen have games against unrated Brunei players.

I am looking forward to more upsets by the Malaysian boys. Round 2 is scheduled to start at 3.00 pm.

Kasparov Comments - Part 2

Continuing from my last post. It was one day before Game 9 of the World Championship Match in 2008. The pre-game talk has already started. I took this opportunity to give my take on the match so far (up to Game 8) and to counter the arguments by Kramnik fans that Kramnik has been playing weakly.

Kasparov Comments - Part 1

A few days ago, Chessbase ran an interview Tkachiev had with Kramnik. In the interview, Kramnik reviewed his epic 2008 World Championship Match with Anand. His praise for Anand brought back good memories for me as I had followed that match closely, and followed the active dicussions at the Daily Dirt Chess Blog.

Three Malaysian Super Chess Talents

Since I became involved in the Malaysian junior chess scene some 11 years ago, 3 super chess talents have caught my eye. I think of these 3 super talents as the best candidates to become the 1st Malaysian chess grandmaster.
