Asian Cities 2013

The Asian Cities Chess Championship starts today at Tagaytay City, Manila. A Philippine Star article on the event here.

Malaysia will be represented by the Shah Alam team. Nicholas Chan leads a team that includes four of Malaysia's most exciting juniors in Yeoh Li Tian, Mohd Nabil Azman Hisham, Fong Yit San and Evan Timothy Capel.

Wishing the Malaysian team all the best.

  1. Congratulation Yit San for being our sole point winner against China Team :)

  2. Thanks, Ilham, on behalf of Yit San. As a proud father, I thought the attack was impressive. Yit San made it look 'natural' and 'easy'. It is not often that a 2400+ International Master succumb to a middle game mating attack by a 2100-rated opponent, although I think Yit San is playing much stronger than his current rating suggests.

However, I thought Yit San's final round draw with the black pieces against the in-form GM John Paul Gomez was more impressive. It was a technical game with the GM clearly pressing for a win. This is the kind of black-side performance that I was waiting to see from Yit San for some time now against really strong opponents.
