The final Round 11 of the 2014 Tromso Olympiad today starts at 5.00 pm Malaysian time. The Malaysia Men's Team is meeting the home team, Norway, on Table 3. The Board line-up is as follows:
The all-GM Norway line-up out-rates their Malaysian opponents by more than 300 points on every board. Norway would be expecting a straight-forward win. However, the Malaysian team has been playing above themselves the last few rounds, and will have something to say about that.
The target for Malaysia will be at least a 2-2 draw.
A win will make this team a Malaysian chess legend. A win guarantees at least 46th placing though there is a high probability of a Top 40 finish. That will break all records by any Malaysian team in the Olympiads.
A draw guarantees a 65th placing although a Top 60 is much much more likely and still surpass all expectations of this team.
This could just be the biggest game of their life for the Malaysian players and nervousness is only to be expected. It might even lead to an adrenalin surge and anything can happen. Especially so over one game.
Yes. It can be done. Malaysia Bolehhh!!!
