Tromso R10: Malaysia draws Switzerland 2-2

The Malaysian Men's team gave another impressive display to draw 2-2 with the much higher-rated Switzerland team at the Tromso Olympiad yesterday. The result stretched the team's unbeaten run at the Olympiad to an amazing 6 matches.

The points came from wins on Boards 1 and 3. On Boards 2 and 4, Aron and Fadzil could not hold on against their much stronger opponents and had to concede defeat.
On Board 1, Yee Weng gave an excellent display of attacking chess to defeat the 2578-rated GM Pelletier. Yee Weng showed his intent for a tactical battle when he accepted double f-pawns to get an open g-file, with opposite-side castling to follow. Yee Weng's attack on the White King was precise and broke through to force resignation.

It was yet again another Sicilian for Yit San on Board 3. The Najdorf Variation on the Black Side this time. In the ensuing tactical battle, Yit San obtained an early advantage which he built up and finally converted into a win when his opponent, the 18-year old  2448-rated IM Georgiadis stumbled under time pressure.
